Also known as the Artemision, this temple was constructed in the Ionian order between 560-550 BC by King Croesus of Lydia. However, it was later completely burned down by an individual believed to be mentally unstable. The new temple, built between 334-250 BC, holds special significance as the largest Hellenistic structure ever constructed up to that time. Built entirely of marble and situated on a platform measuring 55.00x115.00 meters and 3.00 meters in height, the new temple, utilizing the foundations of the original structure, was adorned with sculptures of exceptional artistic quality, adding value to the overall architecture. The temple was destroyed by the Goths in 262 AD, and its foundations were later discovered by John Turtle Wood from the British Museum, who also relocated the sculptures found on the site to the British Museum.

Efes, Batı Anadolu'nun Ege sahilinde bulunan bir yarımada üzerine kurulmuş bir liman kentidir. Günümüzde milyonlarca dünya gezgini Efes'i ziyaret ederek binlerce yıl öncesinin yaşam izlerini görmektedir.
Efes'in çevresindeki kazı alanlarında yapılan çalışmalar, geçmişi M.Ö. 8200'lere kadar götüren yeni bulgular ortaya çıkarmıştır.
